Prior to joining DHS-HQ, Beth was Deputy Chief Information Officer for ICE, supporting the Chief Information Officer (OCIO).  OCIO provides mission-critical Information Technology (IT) services and products that enable ICE and DHS to meet their respective missions. OCIO has modernized vital IT systems, matured the organization to contemporary IT management disciplines, and significantly enhanced the cyber defense posture of the enterprise.
Ms. Cappello is a veteran senior executive with significant leadership and management expertise from a career spanning over 27 years in government service.  Prior to joining ICE, Ms. Cappello served as Executive Director, Field Support Directorate within U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Information and Technology. There she led a geographically diverse team of over 750 Program Managers, Information and Telecommunications Technicians, and Mission Support specialists supporting approximately 62,000 CBP personnel.  Ms. Cappello was responsible for a highly complex portfolio of technology including traditional IT systems such as local area networks and desktops, voice, video, and wireless radio communications, as well as law enforcement specific technologies serving both the law enforcement and travel/ trade facilitation missions at over 1400 locations worldwide.
Ms. Cappello began her federal service as a United States Marine, then joined legacy U. S. Customs Service serving at the National Data Center and at field offices in Southern California. She previously served with ICE, providing centralized information technology support to the agency.  She is a graduate of the Harvard University Senior Managers in Government program. Ms. Cappello holds federal Chief Information Officer Certification and Information Assurance certification from the National Defense University as well as acquisition certification from the Department of Homeland Security. She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in management from Johns Hopkins University. Â
