In July 2009, Ms. Smith was named special assistant to the Director. Her responsibilities included providing guidance and briefing material, coordinating domestic and foreign travel, and providing goals and parameters to the Director’s Research Group and Executive Secretariat. In March 2008, she was selected to serve as chief of the Counterespionage Group, Central Intelligence Agency, with oversight of a large cadre of personnel including investigators, analysts, security, and National Clandestine Service officers, as well as individuals detailed from within the intelligence community
Ms. Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. After college, she was employed by Warner Cable Communications in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
